Be A Player

As Voice Over Actors, it’s very easy to forget why we got into the business in the first place. We’re running from audition to audition, the constant rejection… it’s very easy to get demotivated. But then, there’s also the thrill of the booking. But just as important, there’s the thrill of playing.

On today’s blog, we talk about the importance of maintaining that sense of play with every performance. Every script gives us a chance to interpret a new character, to explore a different side of ourselves. Whether it is our chance to be the villain, the superhero, or simply an insurance policy book.

Remember playing as a child? We never gave a thought about what others thought about us or how silly we looked. We approached every moment with a sense of wonder, adventure and excitement. It’s this same sense of play that we need to bring into our auditions and Voice Over gigs. Yes, we need to be serious about our business and our technique, and part of that seriousness also requires for us to let go…. To let ourselves enjoy the moment, be present, and let ourselves play.

The Casting Directors and Producers will notice which actors are the ones playing and which ones are working too hard. Which actor will you be today? I invite you to comment on our blog: How was your audition different today after bringing a sense of play into it? We look forward to hearing from you.
