5 Ways to Take Care of Your Voice During Allergy Season

Let’s face it. A lot of us are affected by the high pollen count once Spring is in full bloom. As Voice Over artists, we need to take special care to minimize the risk of not being able to work because we’re knocked out by allergies. On today’s blog, I present you with a couple of strategies to keep the allergies at bay.

1- Take Loratadine. One of the popular brands of this antihistamine medicine is Claritin, but the generic version works just as well. Make sure to do your research and talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.

2- Use a Neti Pot to irrigate your nasal passages. You can buy one at your local pharmacy or convenience store.

3- At night, before brushing your teeth and going to bed, take ½ teaspoonful of raw coconut oil and swish it around in your mouth for about 5 minutes, then spit it out. Make sure that you don’t swallow! The raw coconut oil has natural disinfectant qualities, and it also helps to lubricate the inside of your mouth and to reduce any irritation you may have in it.

4- Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night! You may think you don’t have time. But it’s imperative that you make time and get enough sleep, because eventually your body will break down and get sick. By getting enough sleep you help your body regenerate and recharge.

5- Drink lots of water. Besides hydrating you, it will also help clear any residue of pollen that you may have inhaled, thus minimizing irritation in your mouth and throat.

If you happen to have other effective ways to combat allergies, please share your thoughts in our comments section.

Until next time, rest well, recharge and stay healthy!
